Up on DVD Today

Disney•Pixar’s 10th masterpiece, Up, is being released on DVD today. Everything about this film worked. It’s funny, yes, but it’s also one of the most moving films to be released this year. It gracefully, beautifully deals with issues of letting go and moving on, and features one of the best, most moving montages I have ever seen. With wonderful characters, including a menacing villain, and a heartfelt story, it’s hard to imagine anyone not liking it.

Up deserves Oscar nominations in numerous categories, including Best Picture. This is one of the very best movies of the year. I love this film, and with that I wear my Grape Soda bottle cap with pride.

We reviewed the film when it opened in theatres on May 29th. We all absolutely loved it. You can read our reviews here. Our consensus was:

“Pixar is now 10 for 10. Up is another masterpiece, with just the right amount of humour, and most importantly, heart. Make sure that you don’t miss this one in theatres. It is definitely worth it! **** (out of 4)”

The film is available to buy in three different formats. Including 1-disc & 2-disc DVD sets, as well as a 4-disc Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo-pack. All three editions include the wonderfully sweet and very funny DVD exclusive short film Dug’s Special Mission, as well the excellent theatrical short film Partly Cloudy. In my opinion, the 4-disc is most worth it for the money.

You can read our report from Ronnie Del Carmen’s talk at the OIAF here. And here you can read our wonderful, three-part interview with Pixar story artists Ronnie Del Carmen (director of Dug’s Special Mission) and Peter Sohn (voice of Emile in Ratatouille & director of Partly Cloudy).

(L-R) Dug (voice of Bob Peterson), Carl Fredricksen (voice of Ed Asner), Russell (voice of Jordan Nagai). UP is available on DVD/Blu-ray November 10, 2009.
