FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: One Movie, Five Views Expands Onto an Exciting New Platform

Toronto, ON (March 24, 2010) – After nearly two years on Blogger and incredible success, One Movie, Five Views has taken the next step forward and opened up into a full website. The content and writers will be the same, but the look and capabilities of the site will be much more advanced. For easier navigation, there will now be a menu bar to sort through all of the interesting and exciting content, including sections for Movies, DVDs, Books, Music, Articles and Interviews.

One Movie, Five Views has also added an updated "about us" page, and it now includes a brief history and description of the website, as well as short bios for each of the writers. There is also now easier access to all of the general contact info, Twitter page, contests, and a more detailed look at the 4-star rating system.

The new home of One Movie, Five Views can be found at www.onemoviefiveviews.com. Please take the time to check out the new website, and do not hesitate to give your feedback.

www.onemoviefiveviews.blogspot.com will still be accessible, but will not be updated and just remain there for archival and nostalgic purposes.

One Movie, Five Views was originally launched on June 20th, 2008, with a review of Get Smart. What makes the website unique, and stand out from other websites, is that five people will each watch the same movie, and each write a review. The idea behind the website is five different opinions about the same movie. One Movie, Five Views is based in Toronto.

Great Digital Film Festival: February 5th - 11th, 2010

From February 5th to February 11th, the Scotiabank theatre in Toronto will be hosting The Great Digital Film Festival. There will be 20 classic films presented in new digital prints. Tickets are just $5, and you can stay for a double-bill for $9. It’s a great deal.

The films range from The Wizard of Oz to The Shining. Four of the films that are screening are Best Picture winners. The Godfather (1972), The Godfather Part II (1974), Amadeus (1984), and The Silence of the Lambs (1991).

Brittany Murphy (1977 - 2009)

Brittany Murphy, who made her big screen debut in Clueless and starred in numerous films and TV shows, has sadly passed away at the age of 32. She died on December 20th due to cardiac arrest. With roles in such films as Sin City, Uptown Girls and a voice in Happy Feet, she will be missed. May she rest in peace.

This is very sad and shocking news. I wonder what it will mean for her half-dozen films in various stages of production. Take a look back over her long, yet so short, career here.

Disney's “Prep & Landing” Airs Tonight

Disney’s first ever CGI, made for TV Christmas special, Prep & Landing is on tonight at 8:30 PM on ABC. It follows the story of “An elite unit of elves, Prep & Landing, ensures that homes around the world are properly prepared to be visited by Santa Claus each Christmas Eve.”

It features the voices of Sarah Chalke, Dave Foley, and Derek Richardson. The music is composed by Michael Giacchino.

Bring in an Unwrapped Toy, and Receive a Free Movie Pass

From November 19th, to December 18th, if you bring in an unwrapped toy to Rainbow Cinemas Market Square, you will receive a free movie pass valid on Wednesday’s and Thursday’s. This is a wonderful program that anyone can take part in, and encourages people to donate Christmas gifts to underprivileged children.

Special Announcement: “Precious” wins People’s Choice Award at TIFF ‘09

Precious, the story of an abused teenage girl growing up in Harlem, has won the People’s Choice Award at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. Last year the award went to Slumdog Millionaire, which went on to win Best Picture at the Oscars, and dominate the awards circuit. My personal feeling is that Precious may be headed down a similar path. Get more information here.

Patrick Swayze (1952-2009)

Patrick Swayze, best known for his roles in Dirty Dancing (1987) and Ghost (1990), has passed away today, surrounded by family and friends, after a 20-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 57. He will be missed by many, may he rest in peace.

[UPDATE] Special Announcement: Disney to acquire Marvel Entertainment

Disney is in final negotiations to acquire Marvel Entertainment, as was reported in a press release this morning, for a stock and cash transaction worth about $4 billion. Read the full press release here.

What I am curious to know is how this will affect the Marvel Entertainment movies, which are all already set up at different studios. (X-Men at 20th Century Fox, Iron Man at Paramount and Spider-man at Sony). Those three studios all have movies with those characters in various stages of development. I don't think they will change distributors, but they will likely have to pay character royalties to Disney.

[UPDATE] Well, it looks like I have my answer. According to an article recently published on Tribute.ca, Marvel's deals with different film companies will continue to be valid.

John Hughes: (1950-2009)

John Hughes, who was so famous for his films like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Planes, Trains and Automobiles and The Breakfast Club, has passed away at the age of 59. He died of a sudden heart attack on Thursday morning, he was in Manhattan at the time. Hughes became famous for writing the hit 1983 comedy National Lampoon’s Vacation, and made his directorial debut in 1984 with Sixteen Candles. He wrote and directed eight films, while writing and producing numerous other ones, including Home Alone. The last film he was credited on was 2008’s Drillbit Taylor, which he helped write. His films were staples in the comedic genre, and always managed to have a genuine sweetness to them. His 1987 film Planes, Trains and Automobiles was hilarious, but also very poignant and somewhat emotional, which is ground that only a comedic master can walk on. He will be missed by many, may he rest in peace.

New Season of At The Movies Will Yet Again Have New Hosts

A year after taking over the hosting positions of Richard Roeper and Michael Philips on At The Movies, Ben Lyons and Ben Mankiewicz will be replaced by Michael Phillips of the Chicago Tribune and A.O. Scott of The New York Times. The show, which seems to undergo a "Special Announcement" every August, seems to have trouble locking down the next permanent hosts. Hopefully Phillips and Scott will bring the show back closer to it’s original glory. The announcement came Wednesday. The new season of the show starts the weekend of September 5th.

Toronto Harry Potter Marathon

Tomorrow, July 13th, at the Scotiabank theatre in Toronto, there will be a Harry Potter marathon. The show starts at 10 am. They will be showing the first five Harry Potter films. Tickets will be given out free, on a first-come, first-served basis. So arrive early to ensure a seat. It is happening in anticipation of the sixth Harry Potter film, which is opening at midnight on Wednesday. Watch for our reviews of the film, coming this week.

Special Announcement about next years Oscar's

The Academy president, Sid Ganis, announced earlier today that this year, there will be 10 Best Picture nominees, instead of only 5. This is the first time this is happening since 1943, when Casablanca took home the gold. If this had happened a year earlier, than films like WALL•E, The Dark Knight and The Wrestler would have been guaranteed nominations. This could mean that a film like Pixar’s masterpiece Up could very well end up with one of the ten spots. I think we could easily end up seeing something like this come the announcement:

Please note that this is mostly just speculation. We will probably see tons of, at this point unknown, films that will make their way through. I just hope Up does get it’s much deserved Oscar attention in the Best Picture category. There are tons of other films, that judging from the trailers, look like they could be good enough to warrant a nomination. From the trailer, Where the Wild Things Are looks like it should get a nomination, although I don't know if it will. Even the upcoming The Time Travelers Wife, could end up being good enough to make it’s way through. We will know for sure come next February 2nd when the nominations are announced. The 82nd Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, March 7th, 2010. You can get more details on any of these films on IMDb.
