John Hughes, who was so famous for his films like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Planes, Trains and Automobiles and The Breakfast Club, has passed away at the age of 59. He died of a sudden heart attack on Thursday morning, he was in Manhattan at the time. Hughes became famous for writing the hit 1983 comedy National Lampoon’s Vacation, and made his directorial debut in 1984 with Sixteen Candles. He wrote and directed eight films, while writing and producing numerous other ones, including Home Alone. The last film he was credited on was 2008’s Drillbit Taylor, which he helped write. His films were staples in the comedic genre, and always managed to have a genuine sweetness to them. His 1987 film Planes, Trains and Automobiles was hilarious, but also very poignant and somewhat emotional, which is ground that only a comedic master can walk on. He will be missed by many, may he rest in peace.
