Love Takes Wing is a pleasant film, that is very G-rated and appropiate for all ages. This will likely be enjoyed by families and fans of the Little House on the Prairie books and TV show, even thought they don’t really share anything in common other than the time period. This is the seventh in the Love Comes Softly series, by Janette Oke.

Love Takes Wing is predictable, but it works more often than it doesn’t. It takes place in the late 1800’s, and follows the story of two docters, Annie Nelson and Belinda Simpson (Haylie Duff and Sarah Jones), who go to a town to help some sick orphans. They are trying to figure out what mysterious illness is ailing them, with the help of Hattie Clarence (Cloris Leachman), who runs the orphanage. The towns mayor (Mayor Evans, Patrick Duffy) is undecided of what to do, but townsmen Ray Russell (the film’s director, Lou Diamond Phillips) wants the orphans run out of town, so there is no chance of the infecting anyone else. This all leads up to a predictable, but respectable climax.

The DVD doesn’t have any extras, save for a trailer for Marley and Me. Aside from that fact, this would make a good Mother’s Day gift.

Love Takes Wing is the seventh in the Love Comes Softly series. While I had not see any of the others, or read the books that they are based on, I was not in the least bit confused.

Set in the 1800’s in a small town in Missouri, Love Takes Wing follows the story of Dr. Belinda Simpson who is the new town doctor. In that time it was rare for her to be a female doctor rather than her being a nurse, so she is not quite accepted at first. She is brought to the town to try to help the children at the local orphanage after an outbreak of something causing flu-like symptoms occurs. The townsfolk for the most part are scared as the illness spreads and some of them feel that the only way to control it is to close down the orphange and cast the children out of the town. It is up to Dr. Belinda Simpson to try to find a cure and convince the people of the town to allow the children to stay.

This is a completely innocent movie. There is nothing objectionable in it, hence the G rating. It has nice messages about faith and hope, and like Last Chance Harvey, would also make a nice Mother’s Day gift.

Set in the 1800’s, Love Takes Wing is an inspiring story about faith. Based on the 7th installment in a series of novels by Janette Oke. Love Takes Wing follows the story of Dr. Belinda Simpson, who, after losing her husband to Tuberculosis, returns from Boston and heads to Missouri with her best friend and colleague, Annie, to become town doctor. There is a mysterious epidemic running through the town, mainly affecting an orphanage run by an older lady named Miss Clarence. Trouble is, some of the townspeople are now blaming the orphans for the outbreak, and are pressuring the mayor to have the orphanage shut down. With the help of Miss Clarence, a handyman named ?, and an orphan girl named Lillian, Dr. Simpson works hard to stop the epidemic and save the orphanage.

Love Takes Wing is a nice break from a lot of films out there that have a lot of adult content. This movie has no violence, sexual content, or language. Although Love Takes Wing is very predictable, it still has a good story, decent acting, and maintains a period feel throughout the film. Dr. Belinda Simpson is a positive female role model, as female doctors were rare in the 19th century. Dr. Simpson’s faith journey was another thing that I really liked about the film. Love Takes Wing is one movie that you can watch with the whole family. A great gift for Mother’s Day, but nice at any time of the year.

Love Takes Wing was my first introduction to the Love Comes Softly series. Love Takes Wing stands up well on it’s own even without having seen or read the previous six stories.

This is a very watchable western romance set in the 1800’s. I found it refreshing to watch a movie that focused on faith. I appreciated the strong female leads, Dr. Belinda Simpson, (Sarah Jones), her best friend Annie, another female doctor, (Haylie Duff), and Cloris Leachman as the head of the orphanage. It was nice to see a story unfold without violence, sex or language.

While the story of a young doctor coming to save the town’s orphans from a mysterious illness may be a little clichéd it made for a pleasant hour and a half of viewing.

This would make a lovely Mother’s Day gift. This also would make a nice movie for families with girls in the 8-12 range and who are looking for a DVD with good family and Christian values.
