In 2004, Shane Acker, then 28 years old, finished a short film called 9. With only a small group helping him, it took about 4 1/2 years to finish. The film was met with critical acclaim, and ended up being nominated for an Academy Award - any first time filmmaker's dream. Completely wordless, the short showed us a post-apocalyptic world, in which machines had destroyed life on Earth, and only these little burlap/cloth characters, that where eventually given the name 'stitchpunks', were left to try to conquer the machines. At only 11 minutes long, a fuller version of the story was just begging to be told, and attracted the attention of Tim Burton, producer of the feature length version which opens today - 9.9.09. Watch the trailer for the feature here. Reviews will be coming soon.
